The Embarrassment From Pennsylvania
The US Senate Has More Important Things to do Than Discuss Dress Code
On Wednesday night September 27 the US Senate passed a formal dress code! This action was brought about after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced last week that he would loosen the dress code. Almost every adult in this country drew the same conclusion: the Senator from Pennsylvania - John Fetterman - was the reason for the announcement. Fetterman, who is often seen on Capital Hill wearing shorts and hoodies, denied he was the reason. Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat from West Virginia, had had enough and he was not alone as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle criticized the Majority Leader’s decision and called the loosened “dress code” disrespectful to the upper chamber.
Senator Manchin spoke to Fetterman last week expressing his frustration over the dress code change and making it clear he felt the change was wrong and that loosening the dress code degraded the chamber. Senator Fetterman still did not acknowledge he was the problem and even ‘promised’ Republicans he would wear a suit if they didn’t shut the government down.
Action on the part of the Senator from West Viriginia was needed and he introduced a resolution to clarify the dress code. It requires men to wear a coat, tie, slacks and other long pants. The resolution, S. Res. 376, was adopted by unanimous consent. The US Senate has spoken when it comes to dress code, now we’ll see what the junior senator from Pennsylvania does!
Now that the pressing business of dress code is out of the way, perhaps the Senate can get down to real business or will Senator Fetterman continue to be a distraction as he has been since before he arrived in Washington, DC?
Remember Pennsylvanians that his stroke was kept hush hush until after last year’s primary election. Even then the full extend of the cognitive damage as a result of the stroke was not fully revealed until the first and only debate between the two candidates for US Senate. The debate took place shortly before the general election and after many people had already voted.
Shortly after he began his term in January, Senator Fetterman spent weeks in Walter Reed Hospital fighting a deep depression. He now says he has had issues with depression most of his life. What else will the voters of Pennsylvania learn about their junior senator over the next five plus years? One thing we know for a fact is Fetterman is ultra-liberal and that will be reflected in his votes for legalizing recreational marijuana, for abortion up to the moment of birth and supporting the whole LGBTQAI+ agenda.
Pennsylvanians deserve better. Pennsylvania, as the Keystone State, should be an example to the nation, instead Fetterman has made us a laughing stock. The very existence of this new nation has its roots in Independence Hall in Philadelphia here the Declaration of Independence was signed. The 1777-1778 winter at Valley Forge, located about 20 miles northwest of British-occupied Philadelphia, was the turning point in our War for Independence. Nine signers of the Declaration of Independence were from Pennsylvania: George Clymer, Robert Morris, John Morton, George Ross, Benjamin Rush, James Smith, George Taylor, James Wilson and Benjamin Franklin. I don’t believe any of them, nor would other members of the Continental Congress, have shown up for official proceedings dressed in casual attire. I also don’t believe they would have permitted anyone dressed as Pennsylvania’s current junior senator to have participated in their debates. The United States Senate has much more important things to discuss than what one of their members is wearing!
